The Data People Picked Pilot: DAMA Los Angeles, in Their President's Own Words

DAMA Los Angeles is the Los Angeles chapter of DAMA International, the association for data management professionals. These are people who evaluate systems for a living. Their whole operation, the website at damala.org, membership, events, payments, and their photo and video library, runs on Pilot. We asked their president, Dee Nelson, to tell the story in her own words.

The problem

"One of our biggest challenges was that most websites required a separate hosting solution. Pilot made it so easy by providing both in one solution."

What runs on it

"It supports all our use cases: member management, event management, ticket sales, credit card transactions, reporting, digital asset management, communications, and so much more!"

Their annual conference, DAMA Days, runs through Pilot end to end: "Pilot makes it easy for users to find information, purchase tickets, apply discount codes, sign up for membership, register for the CDMP PIYP exam, and purchase the DMBOK!"

Why it matters that they are data people

This is the part we are proudest of. A chapter of the world's data management association had every reason to be the hardest customer we ever had. In Dee's words: "Being a data management organization, it was important for us to capture thorough and clean data as well as the ability to easily generate reports for analysis. Pilot has full blown digital asset management capabilities to store and share all our photos and videos."

On working together

"He is responsive and is always thinking of how to make the application better to support DAMA Los Angeles. Sometimes even before we know we need it." And our favorite line of the whole interview: "If I could clone Laurent, I would!"

Her advice to other chapters

"Pilot is a must try before considering other options. It's so much better than any other solution and at a way better price."
